Clack. Clack. Clack.
The angry clicks of high heels on linoleum thunders through the buzz of voices in the room, alerting me of our newest arrival before she even emerges from the hallway.  I check off her name on my list and fold the paper, tucking it into the back pocket of my jeans.  Lifting my eyes to the doorway, I await the notorious Victoria Larkin.
I’m not sure what I’m expecting.
Maybe a monster with bright red claws.
Perhaps a manlike woman with bulging muscles and a bowl cut.
What I don’t expect is a gorgeous, angry angel.
A blonde, blue-eyed woman, despite it being a casual, Saturday afternoon, fills the doorway with her fierce presence and perfectly styled hair.  Whereas everyone else, including me, is wearing jeans and T-shirts, she’s overdressed and out of place in her white silky, long-sleeved shirt that’s tucked into her crisp, black pants.  Her lips are blood red, as if she snacked on the ducks that live on the pond behind the community center before arriving and match her glossy, spiked heels.
Her nostrils flare in resentment as she surveys the room.  Disdain paints her features as she makes quick work of eyeing up everyone in the room, clearly judging them before she meets them.  I’m sure Bill seems like a dirty old man flirting with sweet Glenda.  And Nate, probably appears to be some goofy goon as he guffaws at a joke Claudia tells him.
The way she lifts her nose in the air in a haughty manner has me bristling with irritation.  What she doesn’t see is Bill, the man that used to cry at every session over the loss of his wife of twenty-three years, is finally beginning to smile and test the dating waters after three years since her death.
What she doesn’t see is Nate, a single father of three, who despite his laughter, aches for the loss of his wife Cindy in Afghanistan.  He struggles each day to be mom and dad to his little girls.
What she doesn’t see is me, a psychology professor that teaches about the five stages of grief, but most days, I'm fighting depression and the self-loathing that threatens to swallow me up.
She may be sexy as hell—rockin’ the whole naughty librarian look—but her insolence grates on my nerves.  Her holier-than-though attitude leaves a sour taste in my mouth and a desire to defend every single one of my friends to her.
When her sapphire eyes meet mine, relief washes over her features and I sit up to face the woman head on.  She ignores the diarrhea promised cookies Glenda offers and stalks over to me.  With each step, I admire the way her full tits bounce with the fabric.  She may be a bitch, but she’s a hot one.
Instead of introducing herself, she sits on the chair beside me and clasps her hands in her lap, lifting her chin high in the air.  I watch with interest as she then glances at the time on her expensive watch and huffs.
“Jesus, I swear.  People have no respect for other’s time.  Time is money,” she gripes.  “When a meeting begins at three, I expect it to begin at three.  Not three-oh-five.”
I raise a dark brow at her and steal a glance at the clock on the wall that reads one minute till three.
“Bastards,” I agree, with a chuckle.  “Some of us have shit to do.”

Elle Christensen

I'm a lover of all things books, a hopeless romantic, and have always had a passion for writing. Between being a sappy romantic, my love of an HEA, my crazy imagination, and ok, let's be real, my dirty mind, I fell easily into writing romance.

I'm a huge baseball fan and yet, a complete girly, girl. I'm an obsessive reader and have a slight (hahaha! Slight? Yeah, right) addiction to signed books.

I'm married to my very own book boyfriend, an alpha male with a sexy, sweet side. He is the best inspiration, my biggest supporter and the love of my life. He is also incredibly patient and understanding about the fact that he has to fight the voices in my head for my attention.

I hope you enjoy reading my books as much as I enjoyed writing them!

                                                            Prologue

Brett

"Sarah, don't do this. Damn it! Stay with me." I reach over and gently brush the blood-soaked hair off her forehead.

Even in this horrific moment, I'm in absolute awe of how beautiful she looks. Bleeding and broken, unmoving in my arms, she is still the most mesmerizing woman I have ever laid eyes on. Deep down, I know this is just the husk of my wife. My Sarah would never have done this to herself. More importantly, she would have never done this to me. Maybe it takes this level of madness, but I finally realize that I have lost her completely.

Whether she lives or dies, Sarah is gone. This is not the woman who made me laugh more in seven years than the rest of my life combined. She definitely isn't the woman I spent years planning a future with, a future that now no longer exists. I feel a heavy weight in my chest at my silent confession, but oddly enough, I also feel a weight lifted off my shoulders. I have watched this woman disintegrate in front of my eyes for almost seven months. Every day, losing her a little more. The light in her eyes fading, while piece by piece and bit by bit, she lost grip of reality. Mentally, emotionally, and now physically, she's left me.

My Sarah died seven months ago on her way home from dinner, and I will never see her walk back into my life. Suddenly, I can't breathe. I'm terrified—and not only because Sarah might finally succeed in taking her own life. I'm paralyzed by the realization that my life is spiraling down in a free fall headed straight for misery, and the only thing I can think to do is anchor myself to this dying woman. I love Sarah with all my heart, but I am not clinging to the woman in my arms. Rather, I’m clinging to the life I thought we were going to have together. I have to accept that she isn't there anymore. Her heart might still be beating, but the bloody, confused, emotionally lost woman I am holding now is only the shell of my first and only love.

"Where the fuck is that ambulance?!" I yell as loud as my cracking voice will allow. Stroking the little bit of her unmarred skin I'm able to reach, I whisper in her ear, "Hang on, baby." Then I repeat the one sentence I have said almost daily since the tragic event that stole her from me. Maybe I say it for her, maybe just for me, but I know that it’s the biggest lie I have ever uttered. "Just hang on, baby. It’s all going to be okay."

Synopsis

In the aftermath of destruction, hearts were destroyed, strengths were stripped, and vulnerabilities were exposed.

A community was ripped apart after a tragic accident, and the loss hit one family particularly hard as it claimed the lives of three, leaving only one surviving member to pick up the pieces and move forward.

Baylor’s life was wiped clean in the blink of an eye. No family, no home, no name. That is, until she met Brandt. He took a chance, giving her hope and a reason to start over. A reason to rebuild a life full of forgotten memories. A reason to trust. A reason to love.

Finding love in all the right places should be easy, but when truths are revealed, it's anything but. Brandt will help her rediscover the true meaning of unconditional eternal love that will prove painful, life altering, and redeeming.

Together, they will try to face the future and will use each other’s strengths to learn how to live again. Can they rewrite history, or in the end, will the tragedies of their pasts be too much?

Excerpt

“This place is unbelievable.” I looked over at him as he stared out the window. “I bet you bring all the girls here.”

“Actually, you’re the first.”

Yep, I was a goner.

“There. Look. A shooting star.” He pointed excitedly.

I caught the end of the blazing trail. “Make a wish.”

“It already came true.” He squeezed my hand.

I didn't think I ever wanted to let it go. It just fit so perfectly with mine, like they were meant to be together. We were meant to be together. I rolled my head to face him while still resting on the headrest. “I like you, Mr. Brandt.”

Instead of answering me, he leaned over the console, causing serious eruptions in my blood. As he got closer, the anticipation had my chest heaving hard for breaths. He reached out and took a lock of hair next to my cheek and stroked it slowly, never losing eye contact. I finally saw that his eyes were a swirl of hazel and green, and his lips only inches from me were a supple red that screamed for mine. His thumb brushed my jawline, causing me to shiver inappropriately. He rested his forehead on mine, trying to control his own urge to jump me.

“I’m going to kiss you, if you’ll let me.” He restrained his whisper.

I couldn't take my eyes off his lips. The words, “Uh-huh,” managed to slip out as we were suspended in air.

He let go of my hair and gripped the back of my neck desperately as he grazed his lips on mine, releasing a gasp from me. I was fully charged and ready to go. I was ready for him to take me to another place. Somewhere I had only read about. A place I never dreamed I would visit.

Blurb:

Reid Travers knows how to win. Becoming Motocross royalty was always the plan, and he was willing to make sacrifices along the way to reach his goal. Sacrifices he thought he could live with until he returned to the small town where he grew up and learned to ride, and, more importantly, where he fell in love.

When fate sends Nora Bennett back into his life, he takes one look at her and realizes that he made a huge mistake breaking up with her five years ago. Now, he'll do whatever it takes to win her back. As Reid sets out to earn her forgiveness and convince her that the guy she's dating is not the one for her, Nora finds herself torn between what her head is telling her and what her heart wants.

It's a race he never expected to be in, for a girl he can't stand to lose again.

EXCERPT

Reid Travers had grown up. He had always been attractive, but time and professional racing had done something to his features and body that he should have thanked the good Lord every day for. His jawline and nose seemed more chiseled. His eyes wiser and brighter. Well-worn jeans hung around his hips, the waistband sitting just below a set of abs that had me thinking all kinds of things—none of which had anything to do with a real estate transaction. While my stomach was a knot of nervousness, below that something inside of me was coiling so tightly that the possibility of shooting straight into the sky seemed feasible. Especially if he kept looking at me the way he was. His brown eyes were locked on mine and I was helpless to look away. “Nora Bennett,” he said as he closed the distance between us. He ran his hand down his jawline, the days’ worth of stubble only adding to his new all-grown-up appeal. “How are you?”

“Fine,” I answered softly as he reached out. The second his hand touched my arm, I knew I was in trouble—his rough, calloused fingertips met my smooth skin and it was like striking a match.

RAFFLECOPTER LINK:

Mickey's Review:

It's an emotionally charged second-chance love story--who wouldn't love that? Reid Travers knows he made a mistake, knows what he wants now, and will stop at nothing to get it--except Nora's wishes. Nora is a mess from how he left her seven years ago, has kept secrets about their past, and has made a new life for herself--one that includes a boyfriend who has his own past with Reid. It's all kinds of tangled, so the untangling is the fun part. :)

Then there's the supporting cast. Nora's sister, Georgia, has her own role, and when Reid comes back to town, he brings his brother, Hoyt, and his best friend, Brett. All of that tangles things just a bit further and leaves us wanting more of these characters when the last page has been turned. I can't wait for the next book in this series! :)

Now, I channel it all to create stories where the girl always ends up with the right guy, first kisses are magical, and a happy ending is just that!

For twenty-six year old Dylan Hopkins, the answer is easy. He’s become no one. Memories of the happier times are all he has left as he finds himself meandering numbly through his now dull life. Though he cares about his work and family dearly, he’s yet to let himself find love again. Afraid of letting go of what he once had, Dylan chooses to keep his heart buried, where it belongs, having died a long time ago.

Conner Michelson is about to change everything Dylan knows. He’s every bit the bad boy persona - tatted up, ex-MMA fighter, but after an injury leaves him unable to fight, he has to rethink his goals. Having just opened his own gym, Conner can cross his first major life accomplishment off his very short list. Next up: find a man he can settle down with and build a family. Seems simple enough - a dream most people have, but when he meets Dylan, his carefree, easy-going life is thrown into a tailspin.

Determined to keep Dylan in his life, Conner vows to resurrect Dylan's long ago buried heart and let love live once more.
