Tiffany's Review of Southern Perfection by Casey Peeler

Synopsis

Life is full of choices: good, bad, and ones you can’t control.

Raegan strives to be perfect in every way. Varsity cheerleader, honor student, and proud granddaughter of Dover Lowery. By day, Raegan is an over-achieving high school student, but at three o’clock, her real work begins.

What happens when appearances are not what they seem? Will Raegan be able to hold on to her life as she knows it, or will she be left all alone?

All of these questions are answered with one night, one song, one story, and one boy.

My Review

"Raegan Lowery is who every guy dreams about but can't have..."

Let me say, it has taken me a while to write this review. Not because I didn't like the story--on the contrary--I'm in awe of it!

This book hit so many of my soft spots: First love, rekindled love (of sorts), strong lead charcters, overcoming grief, and most of all...a family worth fighting for.

"Emmett saved me with one compassionate event."

I immediately fell in love Raegan and her Grandaddy, Dover. After tragedy had struck her family when she was only five years old, her grandfather was all she had. Their bond is beautiful. It's the kind of family dynamic anyone would love to have.
But what happens when you find out your number one person isn't doing as well as you think?

They run a family farm, and with the help of her cousin, Cole, and few extra hands, they make a good living. Every day runs like clockwork--same 'ol, same 'ol. Until the day that an old friend comes back to town. The same friend that never left Raegan's thoughts...Emmett.

"I stake my claim on the only girl I've ever cared anything about, the girl that meets me in my dreams, and when my lips touch hers, I feel peace within my soul."

I promise this is not a typical teenage love story. Yes, there are lovey dovey parts and first time experiences, but this story has more, much more. You have a story about friendship, and who is really by your side when you need them most. A story about brotherhood that shows how strong you have to be when things get rough. But mostly, a story of family. Blood or not, this family has went through so much, and to watch them continue to fight through hard times is amazing.

I enjoyed this book more than I could possibly write down. Believe me, I could have said more!! :)
I smiled, laughed, swooned, and cried (Oh! I cried a lot), but it was worth it!
This book was Perfection to me!

"I begin to smile inside, because as another mountain in my life is created, and angel has appeared to guide me though."

***Personal note to Casey***

I lost my beloved Grandaddy this past November. So, the pain is still very raw. Seeing Raegan and Dover's love for each other was just what I needed. Thank you for writing such a beautiful story and for sharing your personal one at the end:)
