We Read Together

Book, Brain, Heart: Who We Are at We Read Together

We are first and foremost celebrators of reading. We go into under-served communities. We go where we are needed most. We are ambassadors of the written word. We are champions of the bond which forms when a child and parent read together and of the life-long benefits that come from that bond.

We live in a world that openly acknowledges the benefits of reading, while at same time giving families a million reasons a minute not to do it. Our mission is to elevate the act of reading, of learning to read, above the clash and clamor of society, above its place as merely another form of entertainment. Our job is to make reading together an act of joy, an act of love.

We do this by working with parents and students simultaneously. We teach the parents how we teach, and we teach with passion, joy, and love. Our methods are designed to be taken outside the classroom. To put parents and students in control of their education. When we teach a child the sound of the letter “A”, we teach the parents the best possible way to help their child learn sound of “B.” Every book we read comes with a different style of game, each suited to a different type of parent.

Are you an artist? We’ve got drawing games.
Do you like to get up and move? We’ve got dances and scavenger hunts.
Are you so tired after work that’s impossible to keep your eyes open? We will invent a game you can play in your sleep.

Whatever it takes to help children and parents form strong, positive associations with reading, we will do.

Why? Because children that learn to love reading benefit greatly.
They are more likely to succeed academically.
They are less likely to commit crime.
They are more likely to eat healthy.
They develop better logic skills.
They are happier.

We believe that a child who learns to love reading will benefit not only his or herself, but also everyone around them as they spread that passion to others.

As teachers, our time with each student is limited. But, we use that time wisely. We strive to connect with and encourage every student and every parent. We take the power, energy and joy stored in books, the knowledge and training in our minds, and the passion in our hearts and we strive to transfer that to everyone who participates in the program.

When we succeed our influence on life is limitless.

We need your help in order to succeed. Please take the time and donate $5, $10, or as much you feel compelled to. Every dollar goes towards helping children develop a life-long love of reading.

Thank you,

Benjamin T. Lambright

Review

"He was a complete stranger, yet he felt like one of my closest friends."

Oh my goodness! I fell totally and completely in love with this novella! I'm a sucker for Christmas stories anyway, but this was just beautiful!

Andi Porter has had an emotional year. After finding out she is pregnant, she looses her dear husband just a few months later. You can imagine the emotions that she goes through. It's heartbreaking. She also is surprised to find out that she's going into labor days before she should, and she's stranded in an unfamiliar place.

Dr. Jase Rollins happened to be at the right place at the right time. When he first laid eyes on Andi, he couldn't help but be attracted to her, but also knew he had a job to do...deliver her baby. Not understanding his feelings for this stranger, he couldn't help but to want to be there for her in her time of need.

"I'd only met her two days ago yet it seemed like I'd known her for years."
When Andi's Christmas plans, and life, don't go as planned, she has no idea that her very own Christmas miracle is about to happen. Jase gives her a holiday to remember.

"There are no rules stating how long two people have to know each other before one can help the other. I want to help you if you let me. I want us to be friends."
Jase. Goodness me. He is the sweetest man ever!! I'll admit, I had a huge book crush on him;) Andi broke my heart because of all that she was going through. No one should have to go through that. Especially not a new mother. You wanted to hold her and comfort her. Jase was the perfect person for the job.

Thank you Laura for this beauiful story of remembrance, sorrow, friendship, love and moving forward!

"There was a connection there, but it was fragile, easily broken. What she needed right now was a friend, and intended to be just that. For now."

Sail

Book Two in The Wake Series

by M. Mabie

Releasing Early 2015

Synopsis:

This isn’t just a two-year long one-night stand. It’s my life.

This is my life. Our life. It isn’t just some careless affair.

I’ve made the worst decisions a woman could, but I’ll earn my second chance.

She can try keeping all the guilt for herself, but I’m just as much to blame.

Loving Casey wasn’t my biggest mistake. Fighting it for so long was.

I’ll show her how fearless our love makes me. I’ll protect her torn heart.

He still has magic in his eyes. He’s the man who makes me happy.

Her voice still brings me to my knees. She says my name like it’s sacred.

I live for the day when I’m his. To take care of him. To love him the way he deserves.

I can’t wait to be all she needs. I can give her a happy life, security and so much love.

Sometimes two ships never meet in the night, but ours did.

Sometimes the water is rough. It beats you all to hell until you have no choice but get stronger.

Our love story reads more like a tragedy, but to me it’s clean and pure.

Let them point their fingers. Without a love like ours, they haven’t really lived. I pity them.

I’m a cheating wife and a villain. I am his honeybee.

I’m a snake in the grass and I sleep best when I’m lying next to his wife.

I want to be his everything.

  I’m nothing without her anyway.

This isn’t even close to over.

  It’ll never be over.

Blog Tour and Guest Post for One Song Away by Molli Moran

One Song Away by Molli Moran
Publication date: December 1st 2014
Genres: New Adult, Romance

Synopsis

She needs a fill-in boyfriend. He needs a favor. It’s the perfect, no-strings arrangement until they both realize it’s too real…

Sophie-Claire Wright’s life is like a bad country song on repeat. She keeps running into her cheating ex, her songwriting career isn’t taking off, and her roommate just kicked her out of their apartment. With nothing to lose, she decides to do the one thing she said she’d never do: she moves back home. She left her small Southern town with big dreams, but now she’s going home with empty pockets.

Life moves at a slower pace in Sophie’s blink-and-you’ll-miss-it hometown, but her well-meaning, matchmaking mama doesn’t have a slow gear. Sophie invents a boyfriend to hold off her mother’s efforts, but she’s out of luck when her mom wants to meet him. Sophie panics until she runs into Jake Cooper. Her high school crush is back in town, too, and when he asks her for a favor, she agrees—on one condition. He says he’ll be her fill-in boyfriend, so it should be simple: introduce him to her family and then “break up” with him after a few weeks.

Sophie is sure she’ll be able to resist Jake this time and that their fake relationship will keep them both away from wagging tongues. Sure, she was in love with him years ago, but that was then. This is now, no matter how great he looks, or how she feels around him. But she didn’t bargain for moments that feel all too genuine. Dates that don’t seem fake. Kisses that leave her shaken and wanting more. And she didn’t count on old feelings resurfacing and complicating their arrangement—which is starting to feel less like acting and more like the real deal.

Soon, Sophie can’t tell which kisses are real or fake, but she knows she’s in deep…and she thinks Jake is, too. When she gets a chance to go back to Nashville and chase her dreams again, she has a choice to make: stay or go? Continue hoping that the life she wants is one song away, or write her own?

Guest Post

Hi there I’m a Book Shark readers! I am so thrilled to share the post Mickey asked me to write regarding what inspired the coffee shop setting in my ONE SONG AWAY.

Confession: I try very hard not to base characters on people I know, or use real places in my books, unless it’s a celebrity mention, historical figure, or place, etc. So I struggled a bit when I decided to set ONE SONG AWAY in the fictional town of Martinville, Tennessee. I once said I would never write a book set in my state, but when Sophie came to life in my head, she was adamant about the fact she was from Tennessee, and was proud to be a southerner. Creating her hometown was a lot of fun; I look forward to expanding it in future books.

I wanted a central setting, some place Sophie and her friends or family could go, a place where a few important events in ONE SONG AWAY could take place. So I broke my rule, and drew inspiration from a real life coffeehouse I used to spend my weekends at for karaoke, coffee, live bands, and more. Freshly Ground is based on that place, which sadly isn’t in business anymore. I made some great friends during that time in my life, and that’s what I wanted to express with Freshly Ground. Thanks to working there, Sophie meets Mina and Brenna, who become good friends, and turn her friendship with Sloane into a quartet.

There’s a scene in ONE SONG AWAY shortly after Sophie has started working at the coffeehouse, where she’s studying all the various people who are there – everyone from teens, to businesswomen, to bikers, to a group of girls. (Cassadee Pope’s Frame By Frame album inspired a LOT of ONE SONG AWAY, and her song “Everybody Sings” was on repeat this scene.) Soph realizes that they are all there just to have fun. I wanted to show that something simple could bring a bunch of diverse folks together.

I fell in love at *my* Freshly Ground (name changed to protect guilty parties, heh heh), and I was so giddy when I got to use Sophie’s coffeehouse as a stage for a lot of important things and people who shape her story. I hope y’all enjoy the setting as much as I did!

Blog Tour: Ginger Scott - You And Everything After

We're celebrating the release of You and Everything After by Ginger Scott!

Title: You and Everything After (Falling #2)
Author: Ginger Scott
Age: NA
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release date: December 5, 2014

Blurb:

I’m that teenaged girl who has MS. You haven’t met me, but you’ve seen me around. You probably know my sister. We’re twins, and she’s the pretty one. Maybe you’ve heard about my reputation, how much I like to hook up at parties—how easy it is to get me in bed, get what you want, and forget about me after.

Forget what you think you know. I’m leaving that girl behind.

College is all about new beginnings. So from now on—I’m just Cass. And the rest…it isn’t written yet. And no one else gets to write my story for me.

--------“Tyson Preeter doesn’t do can’t.”

That’s exactly what I want people to think when they see me. I am strong, invincible, confident, intelligent—arrogant. I’m the man who always finds a way around, over and through—until there’s nothing left. Since losing my ability to walk six years ago, I’ve relearned life. I don’t need sympathy. I don’t want charity. And I don’t do love.

It’s better this way, saves my disappointments for me, and me alone, and it saves my strength for everything I want.

But Cass Owens is about to wreck everything. She’s about to steal all of my strength away from me, because she needs it more. She’s about to break all of my rules, and break down all of my walls. She’s about to own me…completely.

And I’m about to let her.

*This is book 2 in The Falling Series.

SIBLING RIVALRY vs. SIBLING LOVE

Sibling relationships are intricate, almost more so than a romantic one. Ty and Nate have a very close relationship, and I think it’s a natural brotherly relationship. There’s a genuine closeness to them, and I wanted to show something opposite of that competitive nature that you might expect. It would be easy for Ty to be resentful, but I felt like it made his character more complex to instead love his brother as much as he does—so much that he never wants Nate to feel guilty for his inability to walk. Ty is a good guy, with a lot of really complex layers; he never wants anyone to hurt, and he forgoes his own happiness to make sure others are happy. And he’d give things up for Nate over and over again.

Paige and Cass just aren’t quite there yet. There’s a silent rivalry between them. They’re twins, but not identical. I wanted to give them a relationship that sort of matched their genetics—in sync, but diverting, equals but opposite. As much as they share so many key things, they both crave individuality. When I develop characters, I spend a lot of time thinking through their various relationships and histories, what makes them feel the way they feel and act how they act. Paige and Cass have pages of notes, and I wanted to maintain a sense of realism about their story, give it as much weight as the romantic relationship unfolding. They’re maybe on a path similar to Nate and Ty, but they just took a little detour.
