Release Day: October 29
Conflagration is the second in an Explosive spin-off series called The Wellingtons.
Can be read as a standalone
Synopsis
Branson Wellington? The name, my name, is usually followed by arrogant prick or self-serving bastard, and I can't say I haven't earned those titles. It's true. I'm not the good guy. I'm not the boy next door. I'm definitely not your Prince fucking Charming. Not even close.
And I never wanted to be. Until her. The day I pulled her from the wreckage was the day that my life changed.
Who would have thought that one little lie had the power to throw two lives off course?
Love has never been in the cards for me, but now that she’s here, I have no idea how I’m ever going to let her go. Even if I don’t deserve her.
Because like I said, I’m a self-serving bastard and some things never change.

Excerpt
So why am I having these flashbacks playing in slow motion? I thought when you were on death's door, your life was supposed to flash before your eyes. So why am I replaying every single mistake I've ever made as if it were the first time—in slow motion instead of quick bursts? Maybe my life did flash before my eyes and it happened so fast that I missed it. Maybe I’m dead after all and this? This
is my hell.

Review
"...in that moment, I don't care about myself. I'd give my life for this beautiful, familiar stranger."
Branson Wellington.
Just saying that name could make a lot of people upset.
You see, Branson hasn't been a good guy in the past.
He has hurt people, lied, and been plain awful.
But now it's his turn to tell his story.
And it's a story you need to hear.
Ariana Covington.
The first time she laid eyes on Branson she knew she would never forget him.
One look into his eyes told her a million words he could never express.
Now, they have been brought together again, and under not so great circumstances.
How can she make him see the beautiful person that's lost inside?
The person he doesn't even remember.
"If you don't want anyone else to give up on you, you can't give up on yourself."
Faking it.
Sometimes you have to pretend just to ignore the feelings.
When Branson and Ari fall into a crazy lie, the best thing they can do it just go with it.
But what if that lie really is the truth that just hasn't been realized yet?
"I want to know if this is real or fake. Because it sure as hell feels real. And if it's not, then I need to jump ship, because if I stay in limbo, I'm going to drown and I don't think Branson will be there to save me this time. No, not when he's the one pulling me underwater."
No more hiding.
As Ari is breaking down all of Branson's walls, she doesn't see her own past catching up to her.
She tried to run away, but secrets don't always stay quiet.
It's Branson's turn to stand up for them.
Stand up for the love he never thought himself worthy of.
"She once called me her savior, and yeah, I may have pulled her out of that burning car, but Ariana saved me from myself, my past, and the lonely future I was barreling towards."
Breaking Walls.
Seeing Branson's transformation and Ariana's strong will was amazing!
These two characters could not be more different, yet more the same. Trust me! From those amazing first pages, you wanted...no, NEEDED these two together.
They both were escaping the past that lead to the unhappiness they were living.
They completed each other.
They were the puzzle pieces they never knew they were missing, and yet,
they the kept denying it.
"I know exactly what I'm giving up, and it's not much.
What I'm gaining? It's unmeasurable and more than I could ask for."
Attraction.
Let me tell you...Good lawd! That first kiss was enough to bring in the fire hose!
That was one thing that they had no issue with. Tessa knows how to write amazing sexy time scenes;)
*Continues to fan self after reading again*
"I'm about five seconds away from channeling The Temptations, because this girl sure as hell ain't to proud to beg."
That line had me cracking up! I think what made them so good was they were trying so hard not to like each other, that it made them more attractive to each other.
And, boy, could you feel it!
Brotherhood.
Can I just say...I want to come to Sunday brunch so I can sit around looking at these HAWT Wellington men!! Geez Louise!
I think I was most emotional with the exchanges between Branson and Knox. Their history is a rough story. Branson caused a huge rift in the family, but especially to Knox. To read the love and forgiveness between not just the two brothers, but their parents and Cohen was amazing. Thank you, Tessa, for showcasing this wonderful family.
Moving forward.
This book had me laughing, swooning, and crying. All the emotions to show a very well written book.
I don't want to let these brothers go!!
Reading Branson and Ariana's story, you find that it wasn't just a love story.
It was a story about forgiveness and moving forward with life even if live seems stacked against you.
I really hope everyone enjoys this book as much as I did!
Honestly, who could resist a brooding, hot man?!
"I thought you said you weren't a hero."
"Trust me, baby. I'm not. But if that's what it takes to get you to say yes, then you can call me whatever the hell you want."
