When Matt and Emily are sent on their second mission they have no idea how truly dark human nature can become…
Emily never wanted to face humans again. With the heartache that went on down below, she’s still trying to figure out how to save souls that don’t deserve saving. The only one she wants to see again is Jason - the young man she fell in love with who became the soulmate she simply can’t forget…
Matt was trained to protect and defend the souls down below. Longing to feel the heartfelt emotions that come from being human, Matt wants nothing more than to have just one life - one chance - to live and love the girl of his dreams…
The powerful team find themselves in a brand new century, living in the Gilded Age of New York City. Emily takes over the body of Anya, a young Russian girl who arrives on Ellis Island after a hideous tragedy. There she meets up with a strangely familiar young man by the name of Drew Parrish, who helps Anya survive in an unknown world of luxury, snobbery and…obsession.
What Anya’s inner angel doesn’t know is that the soul she loves is also back. This time around Jason goes by the name of Max Carrow. Once a quiet and kind boy, he’s now part of the ‘Four Hundred Club,’ and wants nothing more than to be among the most admired as he climbs the shaky ladder of society’s elite.
As two worlds merge, Emily and Matt struggle under the weight of their “Gilded Wings.” Not only will they have to figure out who they should fight to save, but they must also face a romantic choice that could destroy them both.
Read-Along Excerpt:
How the heck could it be this cold in May?
A familiar voice inside Anya’s mind shouted out his thoughts; a deep, soothing voice that seemed to make her heart beat faster every time she heard it.
“I’m going crazy, too,” she mumbled, not exactly sure who she was talking to.
She sighed heavily, agreeing with the phantom in her brain. Anya wanted to feel the warm winds of spring as the ship raced through the water, bringing her closer to a world that promised freedom and equality for all, but the cold sky remained dark above her head. Soon she would be forced back into steerage to wait out the rest of the journey with the others.
Looking down at the newspaper, the bold headline, Nicholas the Bloody, was followed by the story of the girl in red and Anya’s other fallen comrades. The writer predicted in his article that the Tsar’s choice to ignore the country’s pain and continue with his ball would eventually bring about his own destruction. His choice to not treat the deaths of his people with proper respect, the writer remarked, would seal Nicholas’ fate, and he would eventually pay for his sins with his own blood.
Anya trembled as the cold wind whipped her long, dark hair around her face, and invaded the well-worn fabric of her dress. Her insides were still numb from the horror she’d seen; the ice in her veins still ran colder than anything Mother Nature could produce.

The New York Public Library
The Ultimate Love of an Angel, a Warrior and Their Creator!
by Amy Lignor
Not only are Emily and Matthew walking in a world that boasted the creation of that mighty giant in Gilded Wings, but my adventure series - Tallent & Lowery - actually ‘stars’ the head librarian of the NYPL as she uses her knowledge to put pieces of very strange puzzles together to eventually find the solution to a mystery of mammoth proportions.
Everyone always asks about a writer’s inspiration. Some say it is a certain person or group of people, others say it was a powerful phrase from another author, while still others actually ‘see’ the scenes in their minds before they get in front of a keyboard to begin. For me, it’s that building.
Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had mentors and teachers I’ll never forget; and I am an avid reader who is constantly astounded by some of the amazing tales that are out there, but when I see Patience and Fortitude looking at me as if they know something I don’t, the beads of sweat break out in my palms and I get a head rush. I once actually had to stop myself from running across the street and getting hit by a million or more taxicabs just to get inside those doors so I could sit down, surrounded by that Beaux-Arts architecture, and take a deep, calming breath.
The NYPL is why Matthew and Emily are always found in a library when we first meet up with them. I can only imagine the angel/warrior team needing that place of absolute tranquility, filled with the tales of others who have gone before, in order to take on their newest challenge.
Books are a passion for me. As a child I played in my Mom’s library (she was the head librarian in the small town where I grew up), and even now I have to head into the closest one in whatever town I ‘land in’ so that I can feel that magic - that culmination of so many great minds in one place. Think about it. I’m not over exaggerating. Only in a library can you sit with Jane Austen, Poe, Koontz and King all at the same time. THAT is magic.
I hope you enjoy Matthew and Emily’s journey as they meet up with action, adventure and romance around every turn. But I also hope that you can one day step inside the NYPL. God knows, I dream about getting back there. I left a long time ago and I have missed it beyond belief! Maybe we can sit, have coffee and talk about the wonders that exist inside those walls. I’ll meet you there!
Until Next Time, Everybody,
Amy
