Guest Post:
Why I Love Being a Book Blogger
by Molli @ Once Upon a Prologue

In March of 2011 I had a crazy idea, almost a whim: I decided to start a book blog. I’ve blogged at Livejournal for years, and I’m a relic who remembers Blogger from back in the day, but this was the first time I’d ever set out with the purpose of creating a blog for one specific subject matter. I wanted, at first, a place just to talk about and review the books I was reading, since this year, I challenged myself to read 50 books, which for me was a lot, even though when I do read, I read quickly. With work and life, I’d gotten away from reading so I thought starting a blog would be an awesome way to get back into my favorite hobby.

What I didn’t know, is all the things that blogging would bring with it: amazing book recommendations, encouragement to step into genres I hadn’t read much of before, connections with authors and publishers, and most importantly, blogging buddies.

I have discovered this year that the book blogging community is so fabulous. They are encouraging, and they are, in some ways, kindred spirits, whether we know one another or not. I have made some strong connections with other bloggers, and there are so many that I look up to, and find inspiration from.

Before book blogging, reading, and even writing, were passions of mine. I write out of need to see my words somewhere other than in the chaos of my own mind (I really have too many characters), and I read to go, well, everywhere, discover new characters and stories. But now I blog because I’ve found this amazing community, where everyone has a variation of the same goal: to read great books, and to talk about them.

I can’t imagine my life without blogging! I think about how my week contains crazy/wonderful things like “Waiting on Wednesday,” and “In My Mailbox,” where for y’all, I even brave facing the fact that I DO have a southern accent, in order to show off my pretty, shiny new books. There’s nothing quite like the thrill of receiving an ARC in the mail, or a thoughtful review request.

And to think, I would have missed out on all of this…on all the wonderful people I’ve met this year, if I hadn’t made the choice to start my little book blog! 2011 has been an amazing year in that aspect, and I look forward to 2012, and my first full year as a book blogger!

whimsical. dreamer. always learning. probably should have been british, with my love of tea & sense of humor. sci/fi fanatic. hopeful. romantic. music geek. lost to reveries.

I'm 26 years old, and a little more girly and Southern than I'd like to admit. I work at Lowes and spend way too much time reading, or writing. I love my life, and am generally a happy and positive-thinking person.
