So if you haven't read these, I recommend them, and I'm going to give away the winner's choice of any of these books to wherever Book Depository will ship! These aren't all 2011 releases, but I did read them all this year. See more details after you see which books were my favorite this year (in no particular order, except for Sing You Home):

ReplyDeleteMary Tillman's "Boots on the ground by dusk" is by far the best book I read this year. Mary's grief and anxiety over losing her son Pat during what turned out to be a friendly fire is very well captured throughout the entire book. I cried reading this book more than I ever cried reading other books, but I managed to finish it in one sitting. Never leave the house without saying I love you...

My favorite this year was Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys.
ReplyDeleteI'm a fantasy/SF fan but not dark fantasy. Hunger Games had too much graphic violence, and I didn't think Katniss stayed true to her character towards the end of the last book. I loved Open Minds by Susan Kaye Quinn, plenty of mind games and action with less hunger for gore. I don't know most of the titles above, but I write fantasy for MG & YA. I'm a stickler for well edited books, so that might help you pick me something I'd like.
