Christie from Christie's Book Reviews
Mickey: Hi there, Christie! Welcome to the blog. Please introduce yourself :o)
Christie: I’m Christie and am really excited to be on your blog!
Mickey: So what made you create a book blog, and how long have you been doing it?
Christie: I have had my book blog for a month now. I worked at Borders Book and Music for three years until they went out of business. My store in Maine closed in September. I love reading and I love books so when I got the job I was wicked excited. After being away from that atmosphere I started missing it more than I thought I would; going through liquidation made me want to blow up the building. That was not a fun process at all and I hope no one that reads this has to go through it. I really started missing the connections I had with people when I worked there. I was able to talk about books I love daily, showing people awesome books they didn’t know about. It was a great feeling when they came back and told me they finished the series and needed something new to read. I was part of their reading experience and I helped find them new books they could be as ecstatic about as I was. It was also fun because the customers would also share with me the books they loved. That is how I ended up reading Bitten by Kelly Armstrong and Darkness becomes her by Kelly Keaton. I even had a customer bring me in a book after she finished it and gave it to me. I met some pretty great people working there. That is why I started the blog. I just really missed connecting with people and talking about books.
Mickey: Being a new blogger, do you have any advice for people who may want to start their own blogs?
Christie: It’s a lot more work than it looks! I would say make sure you have a good amount of time when you start if you are serious about blogging and trying to catch people’s attention. I have gone on the computer to quickly change something on my blog and ended up being on the computer for hours fixing things and figuring new things out to make my blog better. It is a lot of work. It is very rewarding after when you get good feedback.
Mickey: What's been your best experience so far in the blogging world?
Christie: I would say the people. I have met some great bloggers in the past month. You for an instance have been very nice and gave me some good advice and answered questions that I had. Being a newbie it was nice to find some really nice supportive people that are willing to help. I have felt very welcomed into the book blogging community.
Mickey: Which book has been the most fun to review so far? The most difficult?
Christie: I would have to say Remembrance by Michelle Madow was the most fun because I just wanted to gush about it after I was done reading. It probably helped that I’m a complete Taylor Swift fan. I just found the story beautiful and I loved the love story in it. I’m a hopeless romantic myself so I enjoy a good romance. The most difficult was probably the Nine Lives of Chloe King by Liz Braswell. It’s easier for me to talk about a book I love then one I’m not very excited about. I ended up being disappointed with this book and it made it harder for me to talk about if that makes sense? It was also harder to review because I read half of it a few months before I finally picked it up to finish it, knowing if I didn’t I would never finish it. It was a little painful because I just wanted to be done with it and read something new.
Mickey: Any plans on creating your own feature? Do you like participating in memes?
Christie: I couldn’t think of an original one right now. There are so many I don’t even know about. I’m just learning about them now. I just started to participate in the memes, In my Mailbox, Top Ten Tuesdays, and Waiting on Wednesday. They were fun to do. Top Ten Tuesday really made me have to think.
Mickey: Do you finish every book you start, or do you have a list of DNFs (did not finish)?
Christie: I have quite a few books I have not finished. It isn’t because I didn’t like them. I was working full time and going to college full time so sometimes I started a book and then I couldn’t read for a while because of school work. Then when I went to read again I picked up something else because I didn’t want to restart the entire book. There are times that I’m simply distracted by a book that I have been waiting for to come out and just can’t wait another day. I’m horrible at reading multiple books at once. I generally have to stick to one at a time. I have a couple books that I didn’t finish, they are in series’ that I love that I plan to go back to soon. Those are ones that school stopped me from finishing.
Mickey: What 2012 books are you most looking forward to?
Christie: I’m really excited about Red Heart Tattoo by Lurlene McDaniel. She is my favorite author and I read every book she comes out with. I’m also excited about Fair Game by Patricia Briggs and City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare.
Mickey: What's coming up on your blog that will keep me reading?
Christie: I’m about to read and review Halflings by Heather Burch which is expected to be released January 17, 2012. I also think the memes will be fun to read, especially the Top Ten Tuesday ones. I will also be reviewing the entire Hunger Games series soon. I just finished Hunger Games and the next two books are on their way in the mail. That will be a good refresher for bloggers since the movie is coming out in March. I think everyone is excited about that!
Mickey: What movie(s) could you recite for us right now?
Christie: hmmm does it count if the movie is playing to prompt me :-P? I’m horrible at pulling script out of my head but if it was on I could start reciting what they will say. It would be between 13 going on 30 and A Walk to Remember.
Mickey: Thanks so much for being here today!! Any final thoughts??
Christie: Thank you all for taking the time to read this and get to know me more. Thank you Mickey for doing this interview and helping me reach more of the blogging world. I also would like to say I love the title you came up with for your blog. I should have come up with something more creative.
About Christie:
I’m 22 years old. I live in Maine and I love the beach. There is nothing better than sitting on the beach with a good book in hand. I hate the winter and would love to live somewhere with a nice beach that I could go to all year round. I love creative writing and I write a lot of poems and stories. I have a couple stories that I hope to turn into books some day. I used to hate to read, that is hard for people to believe that know me now. I play soccer and like to sing and dance when no one is around. I’m going back to College in January after taking a semester off and changing from an English major to Nursing. I still plan on writing and will probably end up graduating with a minor in Creative Writing. I love to meet new people and make new friends.
