What girl doesn't want to be surrounded by gorgeous jocks day in and day out? Jordan Woods isn't just surrounded by hot guys, though-she leads them as the captain and quarterback of her high school football team. They all see her as one of the guys, and that's just fine. As long as she gets her athletic scholarship to a powerhouse university. But now there's a new guy in town who threatens her starting position... suddenly she's hoping he'll see her as more than just a teammate.

I received this book through Around The World ARC Tours. This is my honest review:

WOW! I was pleasantly surprised by this book!! I knew the basics: female high school football player finds new prospective football player attractive. But goodness, this is deeper than that. She also has a best friend and college prospects and a jerk NFL dad.. lots of stuff going on in this book. It never gets boring or drags. This novel keeps you entertained from page one. I really, really enjoyed it!!

Jordan Woods is a girl who loves to play for her high school football team. She's the captain and starting quarterback. Her team respects her, and she's never really all that girly. She can't stand the cheerleaders and doesn't have many female friends. Things start to change when Ty Green comes to her high school to play football.

There is quite a bit of swearing (which I must say I enjoyed with no apologies) and sex talk (but nothing too descriptive and also enjoyed). Jordan is a football player after all, so she hangs out with a lot of guys and basically acts like one most of the time as well. She's a fantastic main character, but she seemed to cry a whole lot. And her dad is a total jerk most of the time, but he's also a guy who doesn't know how to express his feelings. That seemed to be a recurring mistake for lots of characters in this novel.

This was almost like a funny episode of Friday Night Lights with a female lead. And with swearing. Okay, it isn't much of an FNL episode, but I bet a lot of FNL fans will appreciate the football aspect of this novel! The football games are spread out and short enough to keep a girl's attention. It's very much a satisfying, awesome debut YA novel!! So glad I read it!!

Bottom line: This is a fantastic, sporty YA book. It's different and fresh. Loved it!

4.5 / 5 book sharks

  1. This doesn't sound like the type of book I would normally like. However, your review is excellent and makes me think that it is a book I might like. I have never read a book about a girl who plays high school football and it sounds like there are a lot of of great characters and storylines in the book. I may have to give it a try.
