Ren @ Ren's Rambles has created a weekly meme for bloggers. I think it's a fantastic way to get opinions on books you are on the fence about reading AND it's a great way to fangirl (or boy) about books you've read and really loved. Or didn't love. Either way! Want to play? Here are the rules:
- Pick a book that's already been released (any genre is fine) that you've read and have a strong opinion about OR a book you are on the fence about reading & want more opinions on.
- Create a post with the book's cover, title, and author, and explain your feelings for the book or why you aren't sure about reading it.
- Include a link back to Ren's Rambles in each post.
- Put your post up on Saturdays and link up in the linky at the bottom of the current What Say You Saturday post on Ren's Rambles. Link to the post itself, not just your blog.
- You may use my What Say You image as long as you credit me for it or feel free to make your own.
- Visit the other posts and give your opinion on their choices!
- HAVE FUN!
Richelle Mead - Vampire Academy

Pub Date: August 2007

St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger...
Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever...
Okay, I know you all are going to tell me to read this, but please explain WHY! Why will I enjoy this as much as you all did? Why did YOU enjoy it so much? I'm not saying that I've formed an opinion and don't want to read it. I do, but it's not on the top of my list. Lots of people have read these and loved 'em, but I want you to tell me why YOU loved them. Maybe they'll move up on my TBR list ;o) Thanks everyone!!
Happy Saturday!!

fun meme idea! I can't help you with the Vampire Academy question since I haven't read them. I'm actually really interested hearing some answers. I've debated if I should read this series. I love Richelle Mead's Dark Swan series so I know I like her writing, but for some reason I always feel like I'll be disappointed with Vampire Academy so I keep putting it off.
ReplyDeleteI cannot recommend the Vampire Academy series highly enough. IT is one of my absolute favorite series. Last year the conclusion (Last Sacrifice) was my most anticipated book of the year. And this year it was Bloodlines (a new companion series set in the same world with many of the same characters, just not narrated by Rose).
ReplyDeleteYou seriously need to read this series. And I don't think it will disappoint you. Rose is one of the best heroine/narrator's ever. And the whole world it is set in is captivating. I love this series. And unlike some other YA series (where some people have been disappointed after a few books) Vampire Academy is just as good in book 6 as book 1 (in fact the last book was my favorite).
I have a lot of love for this series; in some ways, it's what really got me started reading YA novels again, for the first time since I was a teenager. The main character is fiesty and has a lot of heart, is so human in her loves and her choices, and just...so realistic. The world building is solid, a set-up and a mythos that seems so possible, and is really well fleshed-out. You can really tell Richelle Mead did her homework.
ReplyDeleteAnd the plot. It's...brilliant. The first book didn't impress me that much but the story really came together for me in the second book, then every one after that got better. Mead doesn't really pull punches, either. She puts her characters through the ringer...but it's all worth it, and it definitely has a pay-off.
Then there are the characters. They're so genuine. The good guys are awesome, and the bad guys are thoroughly bad. There are a couple shades-of-gray characters, and some really fascinating relationships, both romantic and platonic.
Basically...girl...read these books. :)
My best friend swears by this series, but I never got through the first book. In my defense, it was my senior year and sometimes I'm really weird about books - a title I don't enjoy at one point can become my best friend at another time.
ReplyDeleteI'll be looking out for your review!

ReplyDeletei haven't read this series yet, but it is on my list of series to read in 2012. i wondered if it was worth all the hype, but i've had a couple of trusted blogger friends say it DEFINITELY is. so i'm gonna give it a go...
ReplyDeletei was told DON'T read Vampire Diaries but DEFINITELY read Vampire Academy!
I'm not going to tell you to read it. Know why? 'Cause I haven't read it either :P
ReplyDeleteThen maybe we both need to read this one!! ;o)
ReplyDeleteit's an amazing book because of all the action and what little romance it has!!! :D action is definitely what got me so into it :D
ReplyDeleteWow.. so I'm not the only one who hasnt read it?! I want to but there are just so many things to read I dont understand exactly why this is a must, it just doesnt sound appealing to me.
ReplyDeleteVampire Academy is written by one of my favorite UF authors of all time. Richelle Mead makes an entirely original vampire story with fantastic characters and amazing plot lines. All of the books except one I've rated 5 stars...LOVE that series!
