You know when you're reading a book and suddenly the lyrics to a specific song come to mind? A song that relates perfectly to that book?! Well, that's the first symptom that you're getting attached to it and enjoying the title. And here you'll very likely get some good ideas about what to do next.
Some authors write while listening to music and share the playlist on their blogs and websites. Stephenie Meyer, for example, creates a playlist based on what she was listening to at that time. Some call it the "official soundtrack." Julia Quinn, historical romance author, has a short playlist for each of her books: she complies a list of songs that relate to the plot or the protagonists. We readers create our own songs and playlists, and we create themed videos. Not only do we compare it to existing songs but we use it to create new material - all sorts of fan material.
Sometimes we cast the perfect actors to play our favorite characters, models who represent the image of the hero/heroine we picture in our heads. We imagine and draw them. Perhaps it is the wish make it real, make it ours, relate to it at another level by taking the reading material as the source for our imagination, inspiring us. It can even be that little incentive you needed to start writing your own book.
Such initiatives only represent that readers want to be involved and immersed into that atmosphere. It's no coincidence that books made to movies are such a success. The reader want more: extra scenes, exclusive editions, objects, miniatures, games, T-shirts, mugs, anything they can have that will be part of the daily life - things to actually bring home and be part of our lives.
