"Waiting on" Wednesday - Death Comes to Pemberly

Hosted by Breaking The Spine, this section will feature future upcoming releases that I personally am excited about. These will generally be coming up later in the year. Let me know what you're looking forward to, or even what you're writing, and maybe I'll feature it here as well.

P.D. James - Death Comes to Pemberly

• Pub. Date: December 6, 2011
• Publisher: Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group
• Format: Hardcover 304pp
• Age Range: Adult

It is 1803, six years since Elizabeth and Darcy embarked on their life together at Pemberley, Darcy's magnificent estate. Their peaceful, orderly world seems almost unassailable. Elizabeth has found her footing as the chatelaine of the great house. They have two fine sons, Fitzwilliam and Charles. Elizabeth's sister Jane and her husband, Bingley, live nearby; her father visits often; there is optimistic talk about the prospects of marriage for Darcy's sister Georgiana. And preparations are under way for their much-anticipated annual autumn ball.

Then, on the eve of the ball, the patrician idyll is shattered. A coach careens up the drive carrying Lydia, Elizabeth's disgraced sister, who with her husband, the very dubious Wickham, has been banned from Pemberley. She stumbles out of the carriage, hysterical, shrieking that Wickham has been murdered. With shocking suddenness, Pemberley is plunged into a frightening mystery.

Inspired by a lifelong passion for Austen, P. D. James masterfully re-creates the world of Pride and Prejudice, electrifying it with the excitement and suspense of a brilliantly crafted crime story, as only she can write it.

I can hardly pass up a P&P spinoff!! Next year I'm hoping to read a ton of them. I have a couple on my shelf, one courtesy of Jennifer from Fictitious Musings and the Fall Book Exchange hosted by Ruby from Ruby's Reads! I've never read anything by P.D. James, so I don't think I'll be bothered by her normal writing style not being used in this novel. Let me know what you're looking forward to on this fall Wednesday!

Teaser Tuesday - Daughter of Smoke and Bone

Hosted by MizB @ Should Be Reading, Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Laini Taylor - Daughter of Smoke and Bone

Over the years she'd found that that was all it took, that lazy smile, and she could tell the truth without risk of being believed. It was easier than keeping track of lies, and so it became part of who she was: Karou with her wry smile and crazy imagination. - page 9

Have you read this one? I'm in the middle of it right now. Let me know what you thought!! Happy Tuesday!
