TGIF and Week In Review (15)

Hosted by Ginger over at G-Reads, TGIF is a way to recap the week on your blog and answer a fun question she asks bloggers. Linking up spreads the word, so visit her blog for more info and to participate! :o) Here's the question for this week:

Book Disappointments: Have you ever come across a book you were so stoked to read, but it failed miserably in your eyes?

Stef: Most recently, I would definitely say that a book I was hoping would be good that failed to be was She Smells the Dead by E.J. Stevens. The premise sounded different, the cover looked neat (covers tend to suck me in a bit, I admit it), I was really hoping for a solid story. But between the sloppy editing and the disappointing writing it didn't live up to what I had hoped for.

Mickey: Whenever I hear a lot of hype about a book, I tend to expect WAY too much. I think that happened with Melissa Marr's Wicked Lovely. Totally not a fan of that book at all. It failed beyond miserably to me. Then there was Handle With Care by Jodi Picoult. I love her books most of the time, but this one failed in that it seemed to be a rip off of her own novel, My Sister's Keeper, in some ways. Not thrilled. Hannibal Rising is another one. When I read this one, I hadn't read the other ones. I didn't think I needed to since this is supposed to come before them all. Anyway, I didn't like it one bit! I've since listened to the audio books of the other novels in the series and enjoyed them. Also, Discovery of Witches was no good either, in my opinion anyway. It was long and not very interesting. The last one I'll mention is the first Chicagoland Vamp series book, Some Girls Bite. The audio book wasn't all that great, and then it seemed pretty obvious to me that the author has never even been to Chicago. I was so disappointed.

  1. I still have yet to read the Wicked Lovely series. I think it's because I heard such mixed things about it :-\

  2. I heard nothing but good about the Wicked Lovely books, too. And the first was just ok for me. I don't have any interest in reading the rest of them. I'll have to remember that about the Chicagoland Vampires, too. So much buzz.

  3. I have Wicked Lovely in my TBR list. Interesting to read your POV. I've always heard good things about it but it's good to hear the other side of the coin as well.

    New follower btw :)
