"Waiting on" Wednesday - Flame of Surrender/All These Things I've Done

Hosted by Breaking The Spine, this section will feature future upcoming releases that we personally am excited about. These will generally be coming up later in the year. Let us know what you're looking forward to, or even what you're writing, and maybe we'll feature it here as well.

Rhiannon Paille - Flame of Surrender

  • Pub Date: November 1, 2011
  • Format: Paperback
  • Genre: Fantasy
  • Age Range: Young adult

The boy who follows death meets the girl who could cause the apocalypse.

Krishani thinks he’s doomed until he meets Kaliel, the one girl on the island of Avristar who isn’t afraid of him. She’s unlike the other girls, she swims with merfolk, talks to trees and blooms flowers with her touch. What he doesn’t know is that she’s a flame, one of nine individually hand crafted weapons, hidden in the body of a seemingly harmless girl.

Nobody has fallen in love with a flame until now. She becomes Krishani’s refuge from the dreams of death and the weather abilities he can’t control. Striking down thousand year old trees with lightning isn’t something he tries to do, it just happens. When the Ferryman dies, Krishani knows that he’s the next and that a lifetime of following death is his destiny.

And Kaliel can’t come with him. The Valtanyana are hunting the flames, the safest place for her is Avristar. Krishani can’t bear to leave her, and one innocent mistake grants the Valtanyana access to their mystical island. They’re coming for Kaliel, and they won’t stop until every last living creature on Avristar is dead. She has to choose, hide, face them, or awaken the flame and potentially destroy herself.

Sounds good, huh? I've seen lots of good reviews on Goodreads for this one already. I have an early copy from the author, so I'll definitely get to it before it's released. I'll let y'all know how this one goes! Look for an interview with Rhiannon around that time as well :o)

What are you waiting on? Leave me a link and I'll try to check it out! Thanks, and have a great Wednesday! Check out Stef's WoW below!

Gabrielle Zevin - All These Things I've Done

• Pub. Date: September 2011
• Publisher: Farrar, Straus and Giroux
• Format: Hardcover , 368pp
• Age Range: Young Adult

In 2083, chocolate and coffee are illegal, paper is hard to find, water is carefully rationed, and New York City is rife with crime and poverty. And yet, for Anya Balanchine, the sixteen-year-old daughter of the city's most notorious (and dead) crime boss, life is fairly routine. It consists of going to school, taking care of her siblings and her dying grandmother, trying to avoid falling in love with the new assistant D.A.'s son, and avoiding her loser ex-boyfriend. That is until her ex is accidently poisoned by the chocolate her family manufactures and the police think she's to blame. Suddenly, Anya finds herself thrust unwillingly into the spotlight—at school, in the news, and most importantly, within her mafia family.

I thought this book sounded interesting because of the outlawing of chocolate (waaaaaah!) and coffee, and how paper is hard to find (no more books?!). This book also caught my attention because of the mafia influence. So all of that focused around the daughter of a mob boss possibly having feelings for an assistant D.A.'s son, and that on top of normal teen 16 year old girl issues... I definitely see this book as having potential, I'd love to give it a shot. :)
