"Waiting on " Wednesday - The Sookie Stackhouse Companion

Hosted by Breaking The Spine, this section will feature future upcoming releases that I personally am excited about. These will generally be coming up later in the year. Let me know what you're looking forward to, or even what you're writing, and maybe I'll feature it here as well.

Stef's WoW:
Ellen Hopkins - Perfect

Pub. Date: September 2011
Publisher: Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing
Format: Hardcover 640pp

Everyone has something, someone, somewhere else that they’d rather be. For four high-school seniors, their goals of perfection are just as different as the paths they take to get there.

Cara’s parents’ unrealistic expectations have already sent her twin brother Conner spiraling toward suicide. For her, perfect means rejecting their ideals to take a chance on a new kind of love. Kendra covets the perfect face and body—no matter what surgeries and drugs she needs to get there. To score his perfect home run—on the field and off—Sean will sacrifice more than he can ever win back. And Andre realizes that to follow his heart and achieve his perfect performance, he’ll be living a life his ancestors would never have understood.

Everyone wants to be perfect, but when perfection loses its meaning, how far will you go? What would you give up to be perfect? A riveting and startling companion to the bestselling Impulse, Ellen Hopkins's Perfect exposes the harsh truths about what it takes to grow up and grow into our own skins, our own selves.

I was browsing to see what's coming out in the next couple of months and this book caught my eye. After reading the synopsis, I'm definitely intrigued. I think it's safe to say that most people struggle with the concept of "perfect" at some point or another, and what we're willing to do to try and be our, or our parents', version of it. I'm interested to see how this book turns out, because I think it has a lot of potential. I've never read anything by Ellen Hopkins before, but seeing her idea with this book has prompted me to check her out. :)

Mickey's WoW
Charlaine Harris - The Sookie Stackhouse Companion

• Pub. Date: August 29, 2011
• Publisher: Penguin Group (USA)
• Format: Hardcover 480pp

The #1 New York Times bestselling author presents the definitive guide to the world of Sookie Stackhouse.

Charlaine Harris has topped the bestseller charts and has become a nationwide phenomenon, thanks to the unconventional-and otherworldly- life of Sookie Stackhouse. Now, readers will have the opportunity for an in-depth look at Sookie, her family, friends, enemies, adventures, and-of course-the lovers who set her world on fire.

Readers will:
• Tour Bon Temps via the detailed map in the book, the one created by Charlaine herself!
• Read transcripts of Eric and Bill's private conversations
• Examine all the branches of Sookie's family tree
• Learn the fine points of the distinctions between vampire, shifter, and fae
• Get must-have Bon Temps recipes, including Caroline Bellefleur's famous chocolate cake
• Test themselves with trivia questions from the series

Five reasons why I cannot wait for this to come out:

  1. I LOVE Sookie!! A new novella will be fantastic!
  2. Private conversations between Eric and Bill!? Yes please!
  3. A map of Bon Temps would be good to keep track of all the locations in the town.
  4. Hopefully this clears up any and all confusion with the little facts of these novels.
  5. Everything sounds so fun, I can hardly wait!
I am up-to-date on all the Sookie novels, and they're kind of fizzling out. But this sounds like just the thing to really pick up some more interest in the series. The TV show and the books are very different, so this will be a great way to stay current with the facts of the book.

Also, I'm definitely excited about Perfect! That seems to be Stef's book title of choice this week ;o) Anyway, let me know what you're anxiously waiting for!! Leave a link and I'll do my best to get back to you :o) Happy Wednesday!!

  2. Awwww :o) That's okay! Perfect is the companion to Impulse, and I'm always an advocate of reading stuff in order! So if you do start Sookie, start with book 1!

  5. These both sound tempting...I have read one Ellen Hopkins book, which I didn't like (the verse style was really WEIRD in Identical), but the themes in Perfect sound good.
