Favorite Minor Characters
Hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, this feature includes random weekly top tens. I had quite a few favorites so I listed them by book. I enjoy series books, and I usually enjoy all the characters as well. Sometimes it's hard to pick a favorite, and sometimes, for me, it's hard to be pick ten. So this list includes humans, an angel, a werewolf hunter, a vampire or two, and even an animal! Click the title of the book to see it on goodreads.com. Here's my list!
in no particular order..
01. Lula/Vinny/The Moon-Man/Connie/Ranger – Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich
These characters all feel like old friends, even through the humor and outrageousness. Lula loves her donuts and chicken and "trend" diets. Connie is so Jersey and Vinny is so sleazy. And The Moon-Man? Mooner? Oh my. He's so crazy and out of it. Gotta love them! Oh yeah. Ranger. 'Nuff said. ;o)
02. Cormac Bennett – Kitty Norville series by Carrie Vaughn
He tries to be so badass. And the sexual tension at first is undeniable, even if he's out to hunt the very thing Kitty becomes on a full moon. He's just a bit edgy, just enough to still be likeable. He's always turned out to be there for her, too.
03. Vlad Tepesh – Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost
Bahahaha. He cracks me up. Even though he's supposed to be THE Dracula, apparently he still has a sense of humor. Or at least he learned to have one throughout the years. He's very useful, but he's more Bones's friend than Cat's. Sometimes that gets in the way, but he's usually there with some comic relief.
04. Carter – Succubus series by Richelle Mead
Even though they should be enemies, Carter is there for Georgina when she needs him. He's a (literally) smoking, bummy angel who chooses to get along with the bad side of the creature world. I see him as a close friend to Georgina, even though she sometimes has to say, "F*cking angels," when he leaves.
05. Dena – Sophie Katz series by Kyra Davis
Dena owns a sex-toy shop, and she's not shy. At all. She has strange relationships and doesn't care that it's weird. She's her own person, and anyone can admire that. Plus, she's always at Sophie's side (sensing a trend here?), even in the face of danger, which does catch up to them. Good series!
06. Jane/G/Genevieve – Bubbles Yablonsky series by Sarah Strohmeyer
I just finished this series, and this had some of the funniest characters in it. Right up there with Evanovich's characters, honestly. Jane is Bubble's smart, quick thinking daughter. G is her one-letter named boyfriend who learns he has a penchant for hair dressing. Genevieve is Bubble's mother's best musket-toting friend. OY, right? It's hysterical.
07. Harry McGlade – Jack Daniels series by JA Konrath
Henry is so laid back, kind of sleazy, and a little perverted, and who can't love that in a novel? He's Jack's ex-partner, and since Jack is female he can't help but hit on her. He's also usually there for her, even though she's reluctant to call him sometimes. But man, he's funny. Especially when it gets in mini fights with Jack's current partner.
08. Denise – PS I Love You by Cecelia Ahern
She's straight forward, to the point. Holly appreciates that and needs it when she's in a rut after her husband dies. But some of my favorite parts of this book are when Denise is asking guys those first couple questions just to make sure she's not wasting her time! Those even include a test kiss.. she knows what she wants!
09. Abby Normal – Love Story series by Christopher Moore
Abby is SO sarcastic, she makes up her own words, and she uses these hysterical nicknames that made me laugh the whole time once she entered these books. Apparently she was also in his novel, A Dirty Job, but I haven't read that one yet. Either way, it's her diary that some of the story comes from, and she really tries to protect her vampire friends in her own, odd way. LOVE her!
10. Rosie – Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen
Rosie.. yes. An animal! I won't spoil it for you, because she's mostly a favorite for what she does in the end. And for how they figure out how to communicate with her. If you've read this novel, likely you'll agree. Yay for Rosie!
