Teen Tuesday - Louise Rennison's Georgia Nicolson Series

Spotlight on... Louise Rennison's Georgia Nicolson series

For those of you who haven't read this series, it's basically Bridget Jones when she was a teenager (probably). It is journal-entry style writing, and the entries are hysterical to say the least! Georgia Nicolson is a British teenager trying to learn the ways of adolescence. Georgia lives with her mother, father, little sister, and a cat. They're all nuts. She and her band of friends called the Ace Gang go to school (most of the time), create dance moves, make up their own words, and swap love stories. They try to get boys to notice them, complain about different parts of their bodies, and make fun of other weirdos at their school. There are 10 novels in this series, and they're all extremely funny and enjoyable. I laughed out loud during each one!

Goodreads.com description:
"There are six things very wrong with my life:

1. I have one of those under-the-skin spots that will never come to a head but lurk in a red way for the next two years.

2. It is on my nose

3. I have a three-year-old sister who may have peed somewhere in my room.

4. In fourteen days the summer hols will be over and then it will be back to Stalag 14 and Oberfuhrer Frau Simpson and her bunch of sadistic teachers.

5. I am very ugly and need to go into an ugly home.

6. I went to a party dressed as a stuffed olive.

In this wildly funny journal of a year in the life of Georgia Nicolson, British author Louise Rennison has perfectly captured the soaring joys and bottomless angst of being a teenager. In the spirit of Bridget Jones's Diary, this fresh, irreverent, and simply hilarious book will leave you laughing out loud. As Georgia would say, it's "Fabbity fab fab!"

About the Author:

Louise Rennison lives in Brighton, the San Francisco of England (apart from the sun, Americans, the Golden Gate Bridge, and earthquakes). Since the success of her one-woman autobiographical show, Stevie Wonder Felt My Face, she has written for many British comedy stars; currently she is a roving reporter and columnist and is working on two more books about Georgia. She has two goldfish, Finn and Bjork, who are her biggest fans."

These are so laugh-out-loud funny and very amusing. They get crazier and sillier, and Georgia's adventures get more involved as she tries to find a boyfriend and her way in the brand new world of love. Follow along, read them in order to stay informed on the timeline, and get ready to giggle! Even the covers are fun and brightly colored, and the titles hint at the hilarity that ensues. I definitely recommend this quick, easy series!

There is also a new spin-off series with Georgia's cousin Tallulah. It's basically the same formula and format, just with a new cast of characters. It's still very funny and enjoyable.

Anything you recommend, want to see featured, have written in the YA genre? I'll be happy to write about it here! Let me know :o)
