A. The BTM adaptation I have liked the most is a hard question. I like when they stick with the book as much as possible, but that's only if I read the book first. Just recently I saw Water for Elephants, and that was pretty good. Movies that were JUST like the book: Shutter Island and True Grit. Shutter Island had a little bit more at the end, but True Grit (the most recent adaptation) is exactly the book.. dialogue and everything.
The BTM adaptations I have disliked.. that's easier. PS I Love You, while a good movie on its own, was an atrocious BTM effort. It changed just way too much besides the main point, and I don't appreciate that. The first Twilight movie is another example of too much change from book to movie. It's like that telephone game you play as a kid, where your whispers get lost in translation by the time it gets to the last person.
Leave your link and I'll go follow and visit you (once followers are working again, crazy Blogger!). Thanks everyone, and happy weekend!
I agree with you on PS I love you. The book was so beautiful and emotional, and the movie did not hit the right notes. Big disappointment.
ReplyDeleteExactly right! Thanks Selina :o)
ReplyDeleteI liked Water for Elephants too. I didn't get a chance to see True Grit when it was at the theater, it looked like it was a really good movie. I am a new follower!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to watch Water for Elephants, and it's good to know Shutter Island was so true to book! I'm slightly ashamed to say I had no idea it was a book. Now I'll have to read it :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Blog Hop Day :)

Let’s kick off Memorial Day Weekend with some scandal and controversy.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely loved every minute of the Lord of the Rings films and felt they hit the mark when they brought Tolkien’s masterpiece to the big screen.

Wait, wait. I can explain! Hop on over to my blog and hear me out – http://www.howardsherman.net

BTM are tough to do. It took a long time for me to get used to that idea! So now I have to look at the book and movie as separate entities. Where the movie is only "loosely" based on such book.
ReplyDeleteThe early Harry Potter ones were good. They only left a few things out. The 4th one is probably my least fave with all the changes that occurred! Me and my friend always had long-winded conversations on what they left out and why they shouldn't have! :)
Here's my Friday Hops
Have a GREAT weekend!

Jessica@a GREAT read
I was a bit disappointed with the adaptation Water For Elephants but nothing was going to live up to the book for me.
ReplyDeleteI liked both the movie and the book of Twilight, but I totally agree it took too many liberties.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by! Sadly your GFC is still down or I would follow!

Shutter Island is a book?! Didn't know... Good to know the movie sticks to the book.
ReplyDeleteThe best parts of the movie, Water for Elephants, was the ringmaster and the way it captured the depression era feel.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't believe the love interest. It had none of the book's power.
Haven't had the nerve to see Shutter Island. :-)
Of recent Book adaptations, I thought The Lincoln Lawyer was excellent. I had my doubts the Matthew McConaughey could pull it off, but he did.
ReplyDeleteThe all time worse book to movie adaptation IMO is Watchers by Dean Koontz. Simply Dreadful.
